The Sumitomo Ice Edge tires receive overwhelmingly positive reviews for their performance in winter conditions, particularly in snow and ice. Users praise their excellent traction, handling, and overall value for the price.
The Sumitomo Ice Edge tires are highly regarded as an excellent winter tire option, offering impressive performance in snow and ice conditions at a competitive price point. While they exhibit some typical winter tire characteristics like increased road noise and softer dry handling, the majority of users find these trade-offs acceptable given the superior winter traction. Many reviewers express their intention to purchase these tires again, indicating high satisfaction with the Sumitomo Ice Edge's overall performance and value.
Positive highlights
Exceptional snow and ice traction, even in deep snow and icy conditions. Comfortable ride quality. Good performance in wet conditions. Excellent value for the price compared to more expensive winter tire brands. Suitable for various vehicles, from sedans to SUVs. Some users report good tread life, with sets lasting multiple seasons.
Negative highlights
Some reported a "floating" feeling at highway speeds. Occasional complaints about dry road performance, which is typical for winter tires.

Aggressive tread. Did not install stud but tires handled well on ice and snow covered roads in Adirondacks. Road noise really not much louder than radials. Happy with purchase.

So far, so good. I thought they would be noisy given the aggressive tread, but noise level is only slightly more than the all season tires they replaced. Pretty good in snow/muddy conditions. Nothing is good on ice in my opinion, but these could handle it better if studded. I've only been running them a little over a month, too early for a tread wear assessment.

Bought these towards the end of winter season 2020 for my 2016 Ford Fiesta. Took off in the spring, so never really had a chance to see what they'd do last winter. THIS winter these tires have more than proven themselves. We just got an ice storm yesterday 2/3/22 here along the NY/PA border where I live(referred to as the southern tier by locals). These tires were absolutely astounding on the ice. I wish they'd let ya post pictures, my driveway was a sheet of ice, never spun a tire getting up it.

You will be glad you bought these
I purchased these tires after reading the reviews, and they are excellent. I have an hour long commute to Vermont, and my Jetta handles snowy roads perfectly, (even heavy wet snow) with these tires. The treads are rugged and my husband noticed how much better these tires perform, compared to the Bridgestone Blizzak on his Jetta. The tires handle well on dry roads, and they're very quiet. (My old snow tires were so loud that I threw them away when I had my summer tires put on.)

Excellent economical good performing winter tire. Severe northeast driving with snow, slush, ice (and mud) so we run with studs on my Mini Cooper.
The Ice Edge is a studdable winter tire that's designed to give drivers of coupes, sedans, CUVs, SUVs, and minivans an edge on ice, snow, and slush covered roads thanks to its outstanding cold weather grip.
Features & Benefits
Tread is designed for use in winter weather
Black sidewall
Can be pinned with TSMI #12 or 13 studs, depending on the tire's size, for additional grip on icy and snowy roads where permitted
Three Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol means this tire has been certified to perform in severe snow conditions
Winter weather often means colder temperatures along with ice and snow. While some might welcome the change in season, the change in elements can make driving more stressful than it needs to be, as attempting to navigate through ice and snow covered roads might be very dangerous. Fortunately, winter tires are designed to give drivers added traction during the colder months, and the Ice Edge from Sumitomo was specifically built to help drivers of coupes, sedans, CUVs, SUVs, and minivans conquer winter weather. Featuring a special rubber compound that allows for superior performance in colder weather, the Ice Edge is built with wide tread channels that quickly remove ice and slush to strengthen grip. An optimized siping pattern provides additional biting edges, and the Ice Edge is pinned for optional studs to further increase traction on wintery roads.
